The First Three and a Half Months

The blog is finally up! Thanks for checking us out. Here’s a little (abbreviated) back-story to get you caught up so far…

We’ve traveled about six thousand miles since Sept. 28, 2009 and life on the road has been good.
We drove my trusty Toyota truck from our former home of Hot Springs, AR to Petaluma, CA, where we purchased our Winnebago View (The Casa) from my aunt and uncle and sold our truck to some friends.

We explored Petaluma, the Sonoma wine country, and the SF Bay Area, then began heading southeast down the California coastline. We did some great hikes on the beautiful highway 1 drive through the Big Sur, and found an unmarked waterfall just off the highway (we also each got a bad case of poison oak when Sandy got stuck in a dense thicket, then brushed up against us later.)

We spent a few restful days in Ventura, CA, where we met up with a cousin of Leslie’s who gave us the grand tour of Ventura and supplied us with a bag of the best (homegrown!) avocados I have ever tasted. Thanks Jim!

We drove Through Joshua Tree National Park, where we spent a few days, then on to Arizona, where the camping is MUCH more affordable. (California is beautiful, but unfortunately it’s now very expensive to camp in their state parks.) We spent about two weeks in Lake Havasu being warm and working on our 1st. issue of Destination America.

Next, we drove to Sedona, which we will feature in February, then to Tucson, where we spent an unexpected 3 weeks waiting for parts (that never really came). We did, however, decide to cover Tucson for our March edition (and we had a lot of fun there too and initiated ourselves into the casino-boondock club.) A few days ago, we went to Karchner Caverns State Park and that was excellent! The camping was great, the cave tour was awesome, and we met a great camp host/ web designer, Mike, who even put us on his blog, Lightcurve.com.

Today we’re in Bisbee AZ, hunkered down working on the February issue of Destination America and getting this blog up and running. Maybe we’ll explore Old Bisbee later before we head out for Austin, TX in a couple of days.

That’s the abbreviated version of our travels so far, without much detail. We actually have lot’s of stories from the journey, but we didn’t want to start this blog with a 2500 word epic post. Feel free to subscribe to the blog or leave comments if you want to. Thanks!
