A Surprise Birthday Visit
At the end of last week, we secretly rolled into Hot Springs, Arkansas to surprise one of Leslie’s best friends on her 30th birthday. We camped at the Gulpha Gorge National Park campground and hiked over the mountain (to downtown) for Lindsey’s birthday party at Maxine’s Pub. She was surprised to see us-Our secret plan worked! It was a fun evening catching up and celebrating with old friends.
Mountain Sports Festival
The good news is… We are feeling better (for the most part) and we heard about the Mountain Sports Festival from our new buds who we met at the Asheville dog park yesterday. The festival turned out to be pretty great- We watched some tri-athletes hitting the French Broad river in their kayaks, but we [...]
Food Poisoning
We have been laying low and staying home for the last 2 days and nights.
It seems like we may have food poisoning or a stomach bug – Les and I have been alternating days of feeling pretty crummy. I think tomorrow is going to be the day that we break through to feeling better! (Fingers [...]
Friends and Family
Traveling around the country these last eight months, we’ve had the opportunity to meet lots of nice and interesting people: There was Frank from New Jersey, Judd from California, “Joe Dirt” from Georgia, Scott and Laurie from Illinois and many more. But we’ve also had the chance to reconnect with old friends and family, which [...]
Terrapin Brewery
We left Savannah, Georgia on Friday and made our way to the Terrapin Beer Company in Athens. Our friend John had invited us to stop by on our way through Georgia so we took him up on his offer. It turned out to be a great weekend, thanks to the hospitality of John and the [...]
Gabe Gets Down and Dirty
Living in our small home-on-wheels, there aren’t many dishes to do or rooms to clean, but there is a lot of car to wash! And from our two weeks in St. Augustine (parked beneath a beautiful canopy of trees), the roof of our RV was covered in sap. Thankfully, Gabe took on the big job [...]
Heading South Soon
Our time in St. Augustine is wrapping up – Tonight is our last night at Anastasia State Park. We’ll miss it! It’s one of our favorites so far: Camping under beautiful Live Oaks and Saw Palmettos, the beach is nearby, and we are biking distance to St. Augustine beach & historic downtown. And we get a [...]
Early Birds Luck Out at Anastasia State Park
We have found that finding an available campsite in Florida during Spring Break can be pretty tough, unless you have reservations.
We rolled into Gainesville, Florida last week in time to spend the weekend (nights) boon-docking in the Wal-Mart parking lot. It wasn’t bad, but we can’t really relax and “set up” to make ourselves at [...]
The Itinerant Locals
Last weekend we caught the Itinerant Locals (Zac Smith and Cheryl Roorda) at the Brau Haus in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They always play a great polk-rock-funkadelic show, and they usually bring the kids too. If you ever get the chance, definitely check them out.
They will be embarking on a 45 day Amtrack tour of the [...]
Finally Florida
We arrived in Florida just in time for Gabe’s birthday on March 15 and spent our first few days at Wright Lake in Apalachicola National Forest. With our America the Beautiful pass, camping there was just $5. Another bonus was meeting the campground host and co-hosts.
Duncan, the host, gave of lots of good information about [...]
